WORK
Living Big, Living Small
A public / private collaboration
ArtPlace America / Cook Inlet Housing Authority
This one time project aimed to merge art with discussions about how Anchorage will change and grow in the future.
A temporary design creating 2 micro apartments that could be transformed into a one-bedroom apartment.
The dimensions of typical pieces of apartment furniture — a shower, a refrigerator, a kitchen sink, cabinets, beds.
CIHA carpenters built dozens of wheeled, wood blocks of the right sizes to replicate the scale of interior units used to furnish the interiors.
16 stakeholder groups ranging from professionals, to homeless teens, to CIHA frontline and operations staff members, to local creatives participated in two hour build sessions to create living arrangements.
Each design was documented and translated into a 3D digital program for future reference.
