Sheila Wyne Studio Annual Studio Parties
Every year for the past nine years my studio compound host's a community-wide BBQ, music festival, and celebration of summer in Alaska with lots of live music and entertainment of all kinds, for all ages. It's always big fun and every so often we even raise some money for some individual artist who is working on a worthy art project.
Here’s what one longtime local culture watcher said about it:
“One of the hippest spots for thousands of miles is Sheila Wyne’s studio in Spenard. Her annual studio party draws the chic-est avant guards in the north—painters, fire dancers, sculptors, photographers, poets who don’t rhyme and musicians so alternative they wouldn’t even know how to play Mustang Sally even if they wanted to. The entire event is a break with the past and a giant leap into the future of culture.”
